EEO-1 Reporting Now Open: Employers Must File 2024 Data by June 24, 2025

On May 20, 2025, the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) officially opened the 2024 EEO-1 Component 1 data collection. Employers that are required to file must submit their reports by Tuesday, June 24, 2025. After this deadline, no extensions will be granted, and late submissions will not be accepted.

This year’s filing window is shorter than in past years, part of the EEOC’s initiative to streamline costs and improve processing efficiency. Employers should begin preparing their data as early as possible to ensure compliance.

Who Is Required to File?

The following employers must file the EEO-1 Component 1 report:

  • Private employers with 100 or more employees, and

  • Federal contractors (or first-tier subcontractors) with 50 or more employees and a federal contract, subcontract, or purchase order of $50,000 or more.

What Information Must Be Reported?

Employers must provide a snapshot of employee data—including job category, race or ethnicity, and sex—taken from any pay period between October 1 and December 31, 2024. All data must be submitted via the EEOC’s online portal.

Key Updates for the 2024 Cycle

This year’s filing process includes three major changes:

1. Shorter Reporting Window

The 2024 collection period is shorter than in prior years—just over five weeks. The filing window runs from May 20 to June 24, 2025. Employers should not wait until the last minute to begin the submission process.

2. Electronic-Only Communication

All EEOC communications related to the 2024 report will be sent via email only. Paper mail notices (including non-compliance letters) have been discontinued. Ensure your contact information in the system is current and monitored.

3. Removal of Non-Binary Gender Option

The 2024 form no longer includes the option to report non-binary gender. Employers are required to report employees as either “male” or “female.” Internal records may continue to reflect non-binary identities, but such classifications cannot be reported in the EEO-1 submission.

Recommended Action Steps for Employers

To ensure timely and compliant submission:

  1. Determine Filing Obligation: Confirm whether your organization meets the criteria for mandatory reporting.

  2. Select a Workforce Snapshot: Choose a pay period between October 1 and December 31, 2024, to capture employee data.

  3. Gather and Verify Data: Collect accurate information on job categories, race/ethnicity, and sex for all employees.

  4. Review EEOC Guidelines: Consult the 2024 EEO-1 Component 1 Instruction Booklet for detailed filing requirements.

  5. Submit the Report: File electronically via the EEOC’s Online Filing System by June 24, 2025.
