Edward (Ted) Wells

Partner
Head of Litigation

As the Head of Litigation at ILS, Ted advocates for companies in complex commercial, employment, and wage-and-hour disputes. Ted is a tenacious advocate, backed by over a decade of securing significant victories in federal and state courts and arbitrations. Ted achieved tremendous early success, obtaining five favorable published opinions from the Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals in his first five years of practice, one with a brief he wrote as a law student.

Now, Ted’s practice focuses on advocating for businesses. Ted has won substantial jury verdicts and negotiated multimillion dollar settlements on behalf of companies, and has had numerous commercial and employment cases dismissed before the company was subjected to the burden of civil discovery. Ted has obtained summary judgment on behalf of a market leading company wrongly accused of infringing intellectual property. Ted has practiced in trial and appellate courts of all levels, both state and federal. Ted’s strategic approach to litigation considers factors inside the courtroom and out, with the bottom line of delivering results to his clients. Whether you have been sued by an employee, wronged by a competitor, or are simply seeking to protect yourself from litigation risk, Ted provides the advocacy and guidance you need to solve your problem.

Before joining ILS, Ted practiced civil rights law, constitutional law, and employment law on behalf of plaintiffs and defendants. He worked closely with a retired Missouri Court of Appeals judge in private practice, and worked for a United States Magistrate Judge while in law school, writing draft opinions on dispositive motions. Ted’s experience on both sides of the “v.” and behind the bench provides him with unique insights that allow him to find the best solutions for his clients at the best cost to them.
